I have not read it yet, but here is an Amazon descriptive review:

OK, I really hate to admit this, but there’s no denying it: Blue Planet Run – The Race to Provide Safe Drinking Water to the World sounds like a noble but dirt-dry text on scholarly environmental issues. It’s not just me. In fact, a co-worker walking past my desk took one quick glance at the book’s plain white cover, muttered “boring” and kept on walking. But please, don’t judge this book by its cover. Trust me on this. Just open the oversized volume to any page at all. You won’t want to put it down. Blue Planet Run is a visually stunning tour de force by some of the world’s top photojournalists, backed up by thought-provoking essays and profound commentaries on the many ways humanity is confronting the growing lack of a clean and plentiful water supply. The book’s collection of more than 250 photographs are at once beautiful and haunting, enlightening and disturbing, inspiring and even, at times, amusing. From the cornfields of Nebraska to an oil-fouled Nigerian port, this group of talented artists and visionaries takes us on an amazing journey around the world. And despite its global scale, it is first and foremost a book about people, in a very intimate and individual sense. You’ll meet Kenyan runner Emanuel Kibet; Las Vegas homeowner Joseph Cooper, who’s replacing his backyard lawn with artificial turf; Imelda Carreon Valdozino and her mission to test for toxins in Mexico City’s water supply. From the anonymous to the famous, young and old, rich and poor, their faces are all our faces, and their challenges belong to us all. Need another incentive? Buying this book isn’t just a passive venture into eco-awareness. One hundred percent of the royalties from Blue Planet Run will be used to provide clean water to people around the world who desperately need it. Learning about a problem is the first step toward being part of the solution.

I haven’t read it yet, but am looking forward to it. Here is the description from Amazon.

Twin 15-year-old siblings Sophie and Josh Newman take summer jobs in San Francisco across the street from one another: she at a coffee shop, he at a bookstore owned by Nick and Perry Fleming. In the vey first chapter, armed goons garbed in black with “dead-looking skin and… marble eyes” (actually Golems) storm the bookshop, take Perry hostage and swipe a rare Book (but not before Josh snatches its two most important pages). The stolen volume is the Codex, an ancient text of magical wisdom. Nick Fleming is really Nicholas Flamel, the 14th-century alchemist who could turn base metal into gold, and make a potion that ensures immortality. Sophie and Josh learn that they are mentioned in the Codex’s prophecies: “The two that are one will come either to save or to destroy the world.” Mayhem ensues, as Irish author Scott draws on a wide knowledge of world mythology to stage a battle between the Dark Elders and their hired gun—Dr. John Dee—against the forces of good, led by Flamel and the twins (Sophie’s powers are “awakened” by the goddess Hekate, who’d been living in an elaborate treehouse north of San Francisco). Not only do they need the Codex back to stop Dee and company, but the immortality potion must be brewed afresh every month. Time is running out, literally, for the Flamels. Proceeding at a breakneck pace, and populated by the likes of werewolves and vampires, the novel ends on a precipice, presumably to be picked up in volume two. Ages 12-up. (May)

After hearing a few friends RAVE about this book, I used one of my Audible credits to order the audio book to listen to while traveling in the car and walking to and fro from work. It was an ok book, but I must be the only person on the planet to think it was ho-hum and pretty non eventful. You have an old man ruminating about his past in the circus with a young mans perspective. I just don’t get the hype. Perhaps romance novels have warped my view of great future classics. I don’t think so. Please remember…

I am on a new fantasy kick to replace the lack of kick ass heroines from my favorite romance authors. Anita Blake the one trick pony is down the tubes and at this time I have not found any new releases from my other favs. This is a rich fantasy story about Phedre no Delaunay who was born with a defective spot on her eye.

She was born into a society of courtesans and rejected at an early age do to her imperfection. A nobleman, Anafiel Delaunay purchases Phedre because he immediately recognizes her imperfection as the mark of Kushiel. He understands the ramifications of the mark and realizes that she has been selected to experience pain as pleasure. Yes it sounds as though the dirty ole man scoops up the girl to abuse her, but really it is not this way. He teaches her in the art of espionage while she is growing up. After the death of Anafiel and her friend Alcuin Phedre discovers a world of politics and deceit.

I found this to be a very detailed and imaginative story with non stop exotic lands and problems. There is a wonderful cast of secondary characters who each add to the tale. Joscelin is a Cassiline Brother who is sworn to protect Phedre even though at first he does not like her at all. He is sworn to protect and to remain faithful to his training. His pledge requires him to remain celibate. Faced with his devotion to his pledge he finds himself growing respect and love for Phedre. Hyacinthe was Phedre’s first true friend and constant companion. He is not the street rat he appears to be. At the beginning of the book is a three page book with the names of characters and their family affiliation. I found myself needing to refer to this frequently at first, but caught on to the myriad of characters quickly.

This book has it all from mystery, fantasy, eroticism and imagination. It is not a light book to waste a few hours with, it is intense and well thought out.

I rate this as an A and a keeper. This is actually my second reading as I am now working on the third book and wanted to get back in touch with the characters.

Initially, I have not favored fantasy novels, but after seeing reviews of this book describing the tortured heroes of Daemon and Lucivar I knew I would love it.
Initially, I have not favored fantasy novels, but after seeing reviews of this book describing the tortured heroes of Daemon and Lucivar I knew I would love it.

The Dark Realm has been waiting for the arrival of their fated Queen for many centuries. The women in this tale hold the power to rule the males and have been very ruthless and hungry. Many of the current queens will do everything within their power to hold their positions of terror and authority. When rumors of “the Queen” start flowing, many are scrambling to find her to be their savior or to eliminate her.

The Queen (Jaenelle) has been born, but it turns out she is still an innocent child whom has no concept of the power and abilities she has. She continually displays deeper and deeper unheard of abilities that have the three male heroes (Daemon, Luciver and the prince of darkness, Saeton) in this story trying to protect her from the lesser queens who would destroy her.

This book delivered on its promise of tortured heroes along with a rich magical land. I cannot wait to pick up the others in the series. I rate it as an A and a keeper.

(Preface)

A few years ago my husband picked up one of my romance books read a few pages, looked my straight in the eye with this funny look on his face and said this is chick porn…. We then got into the debate of whether it was porn or not.

I don’t have to explain that men and women are wired differently. Just take a trip to your local adult video rental place and see the shelves and shelves of adult videos. 99.9% of them are geared towards a mans taste. Series upon series of videos with quick sex, – slam, bam, thank you ma’am. For the most part they seem to be missing the elements that are turn on for women. We like romance, attention and actual foreplay. They say that women like to read and fantasize about romantic sex and men like to watch. I am not sure that is totally true. I don’t think women like to watch your typical adult video featuring the goofy looking hairy assed guy and the silcone enhanced, anorexic used looking women who detachedly pound away at each other and grunt in the requisite places. I think the reason that it seems that women like romance books better is because in them women are usually made to feel desirable with the proper attention paid to their needs and emotions. You don’t find many adult videos with foreplay let alone focusing on women. But recently a friend brought an adult video to my attention that is truly hot and clearly geared for women.

(DVD)

Snapshot by Inpulse Pictures is an adult video that was released in March of 2006. It features three really hot scenes with really hot guys (not a hairy, pimple butt in sight). Ok there is no plot other than men posing for a womens magazine who seduce the women around them, but there is sexy foreplay, kissing, and some really hot sex.

Scene one has hunk #1 getting his photo taken. He proceeds to attract the attention of a stage hand whom he proceeds to seduce. Very, very hot.

Scene two has hunk #2 and hunk #3 seducing another stage hand. Again very sexy. If you like male/female/male this is it…

Scene three has hunk #4 finally seducing the photographer and wow…..

The men are hot, the girls do not seem to be surgically enhanced and most of the camera action is focused on the hot guys. One minor annoyance is that the facial expressions of hunk #4 were a bit over the top, but his body was hot so we can forgive him.

If more films are made this way, you may see a major increase in women claiming to enjoy “watching”.
