The Price of Innocence - Susan Sizemore1

Becoming burnt on paranormals, I picked this out of my Mount TBR. I have probably had in the pile for a few years. Nothing like a good historical to break up the paranormal beasts….

America, Sherrie Hamilton is taken captive and on her way to serve in a Haram when she is rescued by a daring young pirate Cullum whom decides to make a deal with her. One month as his mistress, then she can go free. After many months Cullum finally lets her go to save her life. She has come to love him and is hurt when seemingly discards her. As in most romance, nothing is as it appears.

Sins of a Duke - Suzanne Enoch0

I love series and I love the part in the series when you get to the staunch meddling head of family. They always fall the hardest. I did not love this story however. Having read the previous brothers/sisters books I could not wait to get to Sebastians story. I was disappointed because the story was sort of boring and so improbable that it just didn’t fly. I really wanted to like this book too…..

Perhaps I have been reading too many historicals. I will take a break from this genre lest I trash the next few ones I read. I need to find an original story that takes me out of the funk… This ain’t it, sorry.

Never Lie to a Lady - Liz Carlyle2

Part of a new trilogy, this was a decent historical romance. I liked both characters. Lord Stephan Nash is your typical gambling rake who will never get married, Miss Xanthia is a more mature (on the shelf as they say) heroine who runs her families shipping company. Both have troubled backgrounds and strong feelings as well as sensual natures. They are thrown together in intrique and grow to deeply love each other. Of course Xanthia inadvertly betrays Nash’s love and the two of them are left heartsick. Never fear though this is a romance and happy endings abound.

The Wolf and the Dove - Kathleen Woodiwiss2

To honor the passing of an favorite author, I pulled this off my keeper shelf. I cannot remember how long it has been since I read it, ages for sure.

The interesting thing I am finding is that as I mature, my views and tastes are changing. When I put this on my shelf another decade ago I get the feeling I like it for different reasons then I do now. As an old time bodice ripper it has the elements of a captured, forced slave all the rage in its time. That time has long gone, but it still has elements the keep it on my favorite list.

How to Abduct a Highland Lord - Karen Hawkins1

How to abduct a highland lord - karen hawkins

I loved the premise of this book - a fiery highland lass whom decides to single-handedly end a long standing feud between her family (the McLeans) and the Kincaids by abducting and marrying a reluctant Kincaid male.

The premise was better than the book itself. I was able to quickly finish the book and did not really dislike it as much as I felt it didn’t deliver as much as it could. I was a bit disappointed.

Fiona MacLean had jilted Jack Kincaid when they young because of her meddling brothers and a slight misunderstanding. Jack went on to become a womanizing rake, earning his nickname Black Jake Kincaid.

Kushiel’s Dart-Jacqueline Carey4

Jacqueline Carey

I am on a new fantasy kick to replace the lack of kick ass heroines from my favorite romance authors. Anita Blake the one trick pony is down the tubes and at this time I have not found any new releases from my other favs.

A Restless Knight - Deborah MacGillivray4

Deborah MacGillivray, A Restless Knight

I have to say this book was a surprise and a joy to read. When I first started it, I expected your typical alpha knight story, but this was so much more. It was very mystical and I found myself reading very late into the night.

Julian, the Earl of Challon, known as the Black Dragon has been given land, Glenrogha, in Scotland by his king as a punishment. He is to secure the glen and wed the daughter, Tamlyn MacShane. The women of this fey area of Scotland have always had the choice to marry and Tamlyn is not about to abide by the king’s dictate, but comes to realize that Julian has been chosen by the Auld ones for her.

The Rest Falls Away - Colleen Gleason5

Colleen Gleason, The Rest Falls Away

I have always loved finding new series to add to my list of favorites. I have been fortunate to have an opportunity to read a new upcoming one by Colleen Gleason. Due out in January 2007, The Gardella Vampire Chronicles is described as a 19 Century Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I am not sure that description gives the series enough justice as it is more than just a Buffy fanfic.

The Man from Stone Creek-Linda Lael Miller3

The Man from Stone Creek

I had been in the mood for a good american historical and picked this one up. Miller is a favorite of mine as I have One Wish and Springwater on my keeper shelf.

Ranger Sam O’Ballivan is sent to Haven Arizona to track down a gang that has committed several area robberies. He is under cover as the new school master. Maddie Chancelor is operating the local store and immediately falls for Sam.

A Reputable Rake-Diane Gaston3

This author is becoming a fav of mine. Her historicals are unique and well written and A Reputable Rake is no exception.

Cyprian Sloane (a returning character from previous books) is a rake who is trying to clean up his act. He finds himself the new neighbor of Morgana Hart. Ms Hart is the cousin of his “maybe” intended who is trying to save her maid and eventually a group of other girls from becoming prostitutes. Since everyone thinks the worst of Cyprian he fears her antics are going to be blamed on him. He tries to stop her before she is ruined and is blamed for it.

The Wagering Widow-Diane Gaston3

Somewhere, I read that Diane Gaston was a regency author who wrote a different type of regency story. I had been getting burned out on the virginal spunky girl meets the mistunderstood bad guy. The first book I read was The Mysterious M. and I found it wonderful. I quickly ordered more books from Gaston and this is the second one. It is also a carryover from the first as Emily is the sister of the character in the Mysterious M.

The Trouble With Harry-Katie MacAlister0

As I have recently started reading through the backlist of Katie MacAlister I picked this book not knowing the storie contents. I realized quickly that it is Regency.

Harry is a peer with 5 children who has decided he needs a wife to help him with the children. Plum is in the position that she needs to marry. She was thoroughly scandalized as a young woman and has been living in ruin. When Harry runs an ad for a wife, she hides her past and applies. Both carry deep secrets since Harry doesn’t admit that he has children, let alone the children from hell and he is also an ex spy. Plum has the ruin and is hiding another erotic secret that proves to be a real boon to the marriage.

After Midnight-Teresa Medeiros0

Teresa Medeiros has been a new favorite for me. I was eagerly awaiting this new book because I love paranormal vampire stories. I am slightly disappointed in this story. Caroline Cabot has been sacrificing many things in her life for her two younger sisters that she has been caring for. Their parents died when Caroline was getting ready to “come out” and she has had to put that aside. Vivienne the middle sister has been sent to the ton to find a suitable match so that the Cabot sisters will not be thrown out of their estate by their loathsome cousin Cecil. When Vivienne writes home that she is about to make a match with a rich eligible gentleman, Adrian Kane, their younger sister (Portia) is convinced that he is a vampire based on all the gossip of the ton. Caroline and Portia set out to prove that he is not a vampire and get much more than they bargined for when they encover the truth and deceptions of the Kane brothers.

Highlander in Disguise-Julia London0

Second in a series of highland books by London following the Lockhart family. I did not get a chance to read the first, but from what I gather the oldest brother Liam went insearch of a family heirloom stolen from them by the English branch of their family. He did not succeed so the second brother Griffin Lockhart had gone to London to find the “beastie”. The statue was last sold to Lady Battenkirk, who gave it to a friend.

It Happened One Autumn-Lisa Kleypas0

Having just finished Secrets of Summer Night, I moved on to the next of the wallflower series. I liked this one much better than the previous one.

Lillian Bowman is an american heiress whose family has brought her and her sister Daisy to England to find a noble husband. Unfortuntely Lillian flaunts all “rules” of the ton and is not considered as a good catch. Lillian has teamed up with the wallflowers to find a husband.

Secrets of a Summer Night-Lisa Kleypas0

One of my absolute top favs was written by Lisa Kleypas. Ever since reading Dreaming of You I have picked up everything she has written. None have topped Dreaming yet, but many are close.

Unfortuntely for me, Secrets of a Summer Night was not a keeper for me. I found the story sort of boring. To be fair, historicals are my least favorite category of romance so it takes a lot to impress me.
