Dark Side of the Moon-Sherrilyn Kenyon

I am in love the Dark Hunter series and make sure I get a copy as soon as humanly possible. I received this one two days ago and immediately moved it to the top of my to be read pile. I just finished it and I am feeling very sad. I have to admit that though this was a good book, it just didn’t strike me as being from the same author. Did some Diamon steal Kenyon’s soul leaving her to write a good but not great novel? If I had to describe this novel I would say it lacks soul.

Susan’s and Ravyn’s characters really didn’t have much depth to them. In reading the jacket I was excited thinking here was another tortured dark hunter like my absolute fav Zarek, but all we got was a women with a smart mouth and a wishy washy hero who is both a were hunter and dark hunter, but gets caught while trying to look up a girls skirt as a cat (where is the normal alpha Dark Hunter’s style and class? Sheesh, I thought boys stopped trying to catch a peek in high school) and in the end walks into situation where he is again blind sided and needs Susan to save him again. Beta boy all the way…

The secondary characters were interesting as some are returning. I really like Erika and hope she features in a later story (maybe with Nick). Arthemis must has beaten Ash too much after the last book because he was the shell of his former self. No Simi this time… (I love her). Nick is off on a whinny baby direction. I was really interested in Cael and his wife’s plot. Hopefully they come back too.

Grade: C (don’t waste your money on the hardcover).

Cover: Ok I love the colors and overall effect but the cover model looks kreepy (serial killer kreepy not I want to take home a bad boy creepy). And what is with the scarf?

  1. You know, when I first read this book I really liked the book, I didn’t take the book too seriously but then I spent a good part of last night reading the little booklet that SK provided last year, I forget what it’s called, but the one with the glossary of all things DH. I pored through the entire glossary reading EVERYTHING in that little booklet and now I don’t know if I like the DH’s anymore…SK is changing things and things aren’t making sense and *sigh* I’m just really confused on how I feel about this whole series, because I started out really loving it and now that I’ve taken the time to think about what I love about the books, the more I’m not liking the turn out of everything, so yeah I totally know what you’re talking about in this post.

Oh by the way, I’m Dylan, I post at Sanctuary’s Finest and stumbled upon your blog and now I’ve talked way too much, sorry I do that sometimes.

But yes, I feel your pain. What happened to SK?

  2. Hi Dylan,

I am glad I am not the only one who is getting confused. I think if you have the time to really get into her world and follow her website (which she keeps repeating throughout the book) it may make sense. But I read lots of books and blogs so the complexity of her world is getting lost in my poor overworked, overpacked brain from book to book. I want to read each book and feel entertained in those few hours. I felt this was a transition for upcoming story lines. The main characters just seemed to be lost in the story.
