Sleeping with the Fishes – Mary Janice Davidson

mary Janice Davidson, Sleeping with the Fishes

With a cover price of 7.99 this was a very quick read.

Frederica (Fred) is half mermaid and half human with absolutely no redeeming qualities. In a nutshell she is a total bitch and an annoying heroine.

The story starts out with Fred walking into her parents home and finding them having sex doggie style on the livingroom coffeetable. Instead of writing this as a funny moment it reads more like an ungrateful spoiled rotten kid who proceeds to disrespectfully bitch at her parents for having sex in the privacy of their own home. She then berates her parents and condescendingly rips on them for being pot smoking hippies. I almost quite reading the book at this point, but really really hate not finishing books.

Jennifer Crusie, Don't Look Down

Jennifer Crusie is a wonderfully talented writer. I love her whit and great character development. I don’t however love this book.

There is very little character development and the plot was just plain stupid. There was no chemistry between the characters. They just felt flat to me.

Deborah MacGillivray, A Restless Knight

I have to say this book was a surprise and a joy to read. When I first started it, I expected your typical alpha knight story, but this was so much more. It was very mystical and I found myself reading very late into the night.

Julian, the Earl of Challon, known as the Black Dragon has been given land, Glenrogha, in Scotland by his king as a punishment. He is to secure the glen and wed the daughter, Tamlyn MacShane. The women of this fey area of Scotland have always had the choice to marry and Tamlyn is not about to abide by the king’s dictate, but comes to realize that Julian has been chosen by the Auld ones for her.

Double Jeopardy, Strength in Numbers – Rachel Bo

Rachel Bo, Strength in Numbers

Sutter Campbell and Josh Reed are two hot and popular college guys who have had a unique mental connection since they were young friends. When they first meet Kendal Aaronson in her shop, they feel that she shares their connection and proceeds to convince her that they are all soul-mates. Add in a rich meddling father who cannot abide with Sutters friendship with Josh and you have an interesting storyline.

I very much enjoyed the sizzling storyline that also included lots of emotion the many erotic books don’t bother with. I rate this as a B because as with most Elloras cave books it was not long enough to develop the characters/storyline as I prefer.

The Rest Falls Away – Colleen Gleason

Colleen Gleason, The Rest Falls Away

I have always loved finding new series to add to my list of favorites. I have been fortunate to have an opportunity to read a new upcoming one by Colleen Gleason. Due out in January 2007, The Gardella Vampire Chronicles is described as a 19 Century Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I am not sure that description gives the series enough justice as it is more than just a Buffy fanfic.

Victoria Gardella has just come out of mourning for her grandfather and father and is now looking for a husband as most young girls of the time do. However Victoria soon learns that she is part of a family line of vampire slayers (venators). She must choose how to balance her life as a debaunte and hunter.

Kim Harrison, A Fistful of Charms

Just when I dispared that some of favorite series were total crap, Harrison comes up with a refreshing winner.

Fourth in the series, Fistful of Charms moves Rachel deeper into the world of black magic. Nick her ex from the previous books gets himself into trouble when three packs of Weres kidnap him after he steals something very important to them.

Rachel, Jenks, and Ivy take an extended road trip to save his ass, only to be thrown into the middle of a potential Vamp, Were war. Rachel makes many tough decisions in rescuing him.
