Dragonswan-Sherrilyn Kenyon

  • Posted on November 27, 2005 at 9:30 pm

Kenyon is an autobuy for me so I quickly ordered this. I didn’t realize that it was a “collectors” editor of a short story from an anthology. I don’t like anthology’s and rarely buy them unless they are part of a series that I want to read. Channon MacRea is a student that has been studying an ancient Dragon Tapestry. She meets up with Sebastian at the museum housing the tapestry and they quickly pair up for the night.

CoverArt: I rank the cover as C.

Fun quote:

Be kind to dragons, for thou art crunchy when roasted and taste good with ketchup…

After Midnight-Teresa Medeiros

Teresa Medeiros has been a new favorite for me. I was eagerly awaiting this new book because I love paranormal vampire stories. I am slightly disappointed in this story. Caroline Cabot has been sacrificing many things in her life for her two younger sisters that she has been caring for. Their parents died when Caroline was getting ready to “come out” and she has had to put that aside. Vivienne the middle sister has been sent to the ton to find a suitable match so that the Cabot sisters will not be thrown out of their estate by their loathsome cousin Cecil. When Vivienne writes home that she is about to make a match with a rich eligible gentleman, Adrian Kane, their younger sister (Portia) is convinced that he is a vampire based on all the gossip of the ton. Caroline and Portia set out to prove that he is not a vampire and get much more than they bargined for when they encover the truth and deceptions of the Kane brothers.

Kate Conner is a typical soccer mom, with two kids – 14 year old Alison and 2 year old Timmy. She is married to second husband and living in surburbia. She is the perfect helpmate for her second husband, Stuart, who has political aspirations. She can whip up a dinner party for 8 with very little notice and manages to get all her errands run during her days and still run the car pool. Oh yeah and she is also a ex demon hunter that retired after the marriage to her first husband (also a hunter) and the birth of their daughter.

Third in the Highland series about the Lockhart family, this story is about sister Mared Lockhart. In the previous book the Lockhart family bargins with neighbor and family enemy Payton Douglas to money to find the “beasty”. When Grif does not find the beasty, Payton asks for payment of his loan which was to be Mared’s hand in marriage. Payton has always loved Mared since they were children and figures this is the only way to get her hand. Mared does not want to pay of the debt and a heartbroken Payton forces into being his housekeeper.

Highlander in Disguise-Julia London

Second in a series of highland books by London following the Lockhart family. I did not get a chance to read the first, but from what I gather the oldest brother Liam went insearch of a family heirloom stolen from them by the English branch of their family. He did not succeed so the second brother Griffin Lockhart had gone to London to find the “beastie”. The statue was last sold to Lady Battenkirk, who gave it to a friend.

I am not sure why but I find this one of the hotest covers ever. I love celtic symbols so it must be that (yeah right).

Cian MacKeltar was trapped inside a mirror for over 1000 years. Revenge was the only thing that keep him sane. When a series of events triggers the theft of Cian’s mirror he finds an alley in Jessi St. James. Jessi is a 24 year old archaeology student who gets stuck in the of the struggle for the mirror.

Hot Target-Suzanne Brockmann

Another great SEAL/Trouble Shooters series book by Brockmann. I find that once I pick one up I have to read almost straight through. Who needs to work anyway?

Chief Cosmo Richter is on leave from the SEAL team to take care of his mother after she has an accident. Not being one to enjoy idle time, he takes on a “cake” job for Troubleshooters. Movie producer Jane Mercedes Chadwick has received a death threat and her production company has taken it seriously and hired security for her.

It Happened One Autumn-Lisa Kleypas

Having just finished Secrets of Summer Night, I moved on to the next of the wallflower series. I liked this one much better than the previous one.

Lillian Bowman is an american heiress whose family has brought her and her sister Daisy to England to find a noble husband. Unfortuntely Lillian flaunts all “rules” of the ton and is not considered as a good catch. Lillian has teamed up with the wallflowers to find a husband.

Secrets of a Summer Night-Lisa Kleypas

One of my absolute top favs was written by Lisa Kleypas. Ever since reading Dreaming of You I have picked up everything she has written. None have topped Dreaming yet, but many are close.

Unfortuntely for me, Secrets of a Summer Night was not a keeper for me. I found the story sort of boring. To be fair, historicals are my least favorite category of romance so it takes a lot to impress me.
